En algunos de ellos, el crecimiento en la instalación de calderas de biomasa ha sido muy significativo desde el año 2004. Ejemplo de ello es Austria, donde se pasó de 28.000 instalaciones con potencias inferiores a 100 kW en 2004 a 47.000 en 2006. Estos desarrollos unidos a la creciente producción de pelets han dado lugar a un mercado europeo de biomasa térmica, donde la existencia de países demandantes de pelets se ve alimentada por la existencia de países excedentarios en la producción de este tipo de biomasa. En el cuadro adjunto se observa la evolución del mercado norteamericano y europeo de pélet, en los últimos años. 163
