Plan de Energías Renovables 2011- 2020. La AIE indica que, de los 239 TWh eléctricos generados con biomasa en 2006, aproximadamente el 44,4% correspondían a plantas de generación eléctrica exclusiva con un rendimiento medio del 20%. El resto eran plantas de cogeneración con uso de la energía térmica tanto en la industria como en redes de calefacción centralizada. No obstante, en general las estadísticas de biomasa son poco fiables no sólo en España sino en el resto de países del mundo, dada la heterogeneidad de aplicaciones y su dispersión. Situación en la UE En la Unión Europea, cinco países aportan el 56,7% de la energía primaria producida con biomasa: Francia, Suecia, Alemania, Finlandia y Polonia. Los principales consumidores de biomasa (consumo “per cápita”) son los países nórdicos y bálticos, junto con Austria, encabezados por Finlandia.
