Fuente: Elaboración propia a partir de “El medio ambiente y el medio rural y marino en España 2010” (MARM) Así, para poder conseguir reducir el significativo uso del vertedero como opción de gestión de los residuos municipales en España y llevarlo a las cotas ya existentes en los países de la UE más avanzados en materia de gestión de residuos, será necesario el desarrollo del resto de opciones, valorando tanto la jerarquía de gestión como las limitaciones como tratamiento final que presentan algunas opciones. En la actualidad existen en España 10 incineradoras de residuos municipales: Tabla 4.8.9. Incineradoras en España Fuente: BCG, CNE La potencia total instalada, incluyendo la reciente ampliación de la planta de Mallorca (40 MW), asciende a 310 MW, aunque hay que tener en cuenta que la planta de Zabalgarbi emplea una tecnología particular que combina turbinas de gas y de vapor, frente a las turbinas de vapor empleadas en el resto de instalaciones (la potencia instalada en Zabalgarbi correspondiente a residuos domésticos sería de 20 MW, estando el resto de potencia asociada al consumo de gas natural). Así, excluida la turbina de gas de Zabalgarbi y teniendo en cuenta que aproximadamente un 50% del contenido energético de los residuos domésticos y similares sería renovable, la capacidad instalada a día de hoy de residuos domésticos renovables sería de 115 MW. En cuanto a los residuos industriales, su procedencia y composición es muy diversa, dependiendo de la actividad industrial que se lleve a cabo (se verá con detalle en el apartado 4.8.3). La aplicación energética dominante de estos residuos es su uso como combustibles en hornos industriales, siendo el sector cementero el principal consumidor. El combustible mayoritariamente usado por este sector en España es el coque de petróleo, que en 2010 fue sustituido en un 15,6% por residuos.
