A continuación le sigue el gas natural, con un incremento acumulado del 69% en el periodo 2010-2020. Desde un punto de vista estructural, las energías renovables y el gas natural incrementarán su presencia en la cobertura de la demanda energética primaria desplazando, por este orden, al petróleo, la nuclear y el carbón. Esta evolución de las cesta energética primaria es especialmente significativa en el caso de las energías renovables, cuyo porcentaje de contribución a la demanda primaria se incrementará desde un 11,3% en 2010, a prácticamente suponer el 16,8% en 2020, véase la figura 3.3.2.
