Grid Storage Energy storage provides greater efficiency and reliability in electrical power systems. An illustration of the many points of entry for energy storage in the power grid is shown in Figure 4.1. This section will describe a number of energy storage technologies that, when implemented into the current electrical power infrastructure, can serve bulk storage, distributed generation, power quality, and off-grid/renewable support applications. Bulk Storage Bulk energy storage technologies enable power utilities to better accommodate daily fluctuations in energy demand by either deferring power generation or increasing base load power for peak demand use.
