Future cost reductions derive from technical improvements, scale-up in individual plant megawatt capacity, increased deployment rates, competitive pressures, use of thermal storage, and advancements in O&M methods. Cost drivers have been identified from SunLab activities and from industry input. Duke Solar Energy is a key industrial participant in trough technology and is actively engaged in developing trough power plant opportunities as well as an advanced collector design. The development and operation of the SEGS plants by Luz International, totaling 354 MWe net installed capacity, provide the baseline for future performance and cost projections.
