2.0 OBJECTIVE The overall goal of this work effort is to develop models that will allow for the characterization and evaluation of s-CO2 power cycles for CSP. Assuming the performance modeling indicates technical promise, a further objective is to add new modeling capability to the NREL SAM development team and the greater solar modeling needs at NREL. 3.0 SCOPE OF WORK / TASKS The Subcontractor shall develop accurate mechanistic models of turbomachinery that can be used in predicting the design point and off-design point operation of supercritical carbon dioxide power cycles. These models will be utilized to characterize the performance of different cycle configurations. Work will focus on to cycle conditions that are compatible for future parabolic trough and power tower operating temperatures – assumed to be 500°C to 650°C. TRNSYS modules of the best cycle configuration(s) will developed to allow ease of integration into NREL’s Solar Advisor Model. This statement of work is planned as an eighteen (18) month activity, with eight (8) bimonthly reports plus one final summary report.
