LIFE+ PROJECT “CLIM-WASTENER” The objectives of the Life+ project “Clim-Wastener”, which started in January 2010 and will run till the end of 2013, are to design, build, test and run an innovative electricity valorization system in the specific context of a landfill. The ORC technology, developed by Verdesis, has been selected by the EC and is currently tested in France on two pilot sites with different configurations: Environmental objectives: - Increase the proportion of renewable energies - Improve power plant efficiency - Promote a sustainable waste management - Tackle climate change by curbing greenhouse gas emissions - At Saint-Laurent des Hommes, a 125kW ORC unit operates on the waste heat generated by four 200kW microturbines. - At Orange, the heat produced by five 200kW microturbines is utilized to run a 125kW ORC unit. Thanks to the extra electricity provided by the two ORC units, more than 400 tons of CO2 are expected to be saved every year. The Clim-Wastener project, supported by the EC, involves six European partners. As the project coordinator, Verdesis SA is in charge of the project management, permitting, unit design, construction and operation, and communication. During the first phases of the project, Pöyry helped Verdesis with permit clearance and ORC design and specifications. Communication actions along with the identification of potential sites in Southern and Northern Europe have been carried out for 2012 respectively by IBT and ENVIRON in order to disseminate the ORC technology. The ORC operating conditions on the two sites will be monitored and analyzed by EIFER. This is likely to lead to proposals for improvement. Finally, Getlini EKO will make a return of experience based on how the two pilot units operate.
