A corto plazo, hasta el año 2013, el Acuerdo del Consejo de Ministros de 13 de noviembre de 2009 procedió a la ordenación de los proyectos o instalaciones presentados al registro administrativo de preasignación de retribución previsto en el RDL 6/2009. A partir del año 2014 y hasta 2020 se instalará una potencia creciente, con un objetivo a 2020 que alcanza los 4.800 MW. Considerando esta potencia instalada acumulada total por años, podemos estimar la energía anual generada por el área solar termoeléctrica en el periodo 2010-2020.
