Analizando las tecnologías más maduras (que permiten un estudio más fiable de sus expectativas futuras) y con sistemas de almacenamiento (que es la tendencia general), según el estudio de prospectiva tecnológica realizado por BCG para el IDAE, se espera que las centrales cilindroparabólicas con almacenamiento disminuyan sus costes de inversión un 27% desde el 2012 hasta el 2020. Igualmente, para las centrales de colector central con almacenamiento se prevé una disminución de los costes de inversión del 38%, incluyendo además en los próximos años un desarrollo de estas centrales de 20 a 50 MW.
