Mejoras en el diseño de las instalaciones, en la estandarización de los equipos de producción de calor y frío, y en las mejoras de los materiales de las instalaciones. El coste de operación y mantenimiento en 2010 se estima entre 20 y 30 euros por kW al año según la potencia de la instalación, como se muestra en la siguiente figura: Figura 4.10.20. El actual volumen de mercado de energía solar térmica y su evolución reciente dificulta que se desarrollen actividades de investigación y desarrollo de forma concluyente en los principales equipos de los que consta una instalación solar. El fuerte crecimiento inmobiliario de los últimos años ha ocasionado una excesiva focalización en las aplicaciones para el sector residencial, dedicándose menos esfuerzo al desarrollo de soluciones para usos industriales.
