Las actuales líneas de investigación se centran en el desarrollo de nuevos materiales como superficies funcionales, absorbedores selectivos, mejora de espejos y reflectantes, acristalamientos con propiedades ópticas adaptativas, fluidos calo- portadores estables a mayores temperaturas, etc. Igualmente se trabaja en la mejora de los sistemas de control e instrumentación, en el desarrollo de nuevos procedimientos de prueba, incluyendo test de envejecimiento de los captadores y componentes, así como en pruebas de aplicaciones específicas, como los captadores de fachada e instalaciones marítimas. Aplicaciones industriales El sector industrial presenta un alto potencial por la importancia de su demanda térmica en el rango que pueden producir las instalaciones solares. Se estima que los sistemas solares podrían proporcionar entre el 2 y el 7,5% del potencial de demanda total de energía a baja y media temperatura del sector industrial. Aproximadamente el 41% de la demanda de calor industrial requiere temperaturas por debajo de 250 oC. En muchos sectores industriales como la industria papelera, bebidas, la fabricación de fertilizantes, alimentación como la industria cárnica, bebidas como vinos, industria láctea, etc., la demanda de calor a media y baja temperatura (por debajo de 250 oC) se sitúa en torno al 47,7% de la demanda total.
