Plan de Energías Renovables 2011- 2020. 4.10 SECTOR SOLAR TÉRMICO 4.10.1 Descripción del sector Subsectores La energía solar térmica consiste en el aprovechamiento de la energía del sol para la obtención de energía térmica, a través del calentamiento de un fluido. Distinguimos tres áreas con distinta madurez comercial y distintas perspectivas, que se describen con mayor detalle en el apartado 4.10.2: - Aplicaciones para agua caliente sanitaria (ACS), calefacción y piscinas. - Aplicaciones para usos industriales. - Sistemas de climatización solar. Las aplicaciones de ACS constituyen el uso más extendido de la energía solar térmica, y desde la entrada en vigor del Código Técnico de la Edificación su instalación es obligatoria en los edificios de nueva construcción o rehabilitaciones, por lo que actualmente son instalaciones cada vez más habituales. Situación actual en el mundo La superficie instalada en el mundo alcanzaba a finales de2009 los 172,4 GWt47, que corresponden a 246 millones de m2, de los que 151,5 GWt corresponden a captadores vidriados planos y tubos de vacío mientras que 19,7 GWt a captadores no vidriados.
