Plan de Energías Renovables 2011- 2020. - Sistema óptico: los mecanismos de concentración solar pueden realizarse mediante lentes o espejos, que refractan o reflejan la luz sobre el receptor que alberga la célula. El factor de concentración puede ser de unas decenas, que se denomina baja o media concentración, a un millar (1.000x), reduciéndose en la misma medida el área de célula necesaria para entregar una determinada potencia. - Seguidor solar: en los sistemas de concentración es necesario hacer uso de un sistema que permita mantener a la célula enfocada al Sol, es decir, necesita seguir la trayectoria del mismo en todo momento. El mercado mundial de concentración solar fotovoltaica se estima en 25 MW hasta 2009. En la actualidad España tiene la mayor cuota de mercado mundial, cuenta con el 65% del total, seguida por EE.UU. con el 10% y Australia con el 11%. Sin embargo, las tecnologías de concentración fotovoltaica podrían tener dificultades para atraer capital inversor en proyectos en un escenario de precios bajos de los módulos convencionales de silicio o capa delgada, sin una regulación específica que ayude a esta tecnología a alcanzar, en poco tiempo, el reconocimiento de calidad y la confianza en su fiabilidad que la tecnología convencional ha obtenido en 20 años. Así, para que esta tecnología pueda avanzar en su curva de aprendizaje con el incremento de producción y la consiguiente reducción de costes, es necesario un apoyo que le permita competir con otras tecnologías, ya que actualmente representa un mayor coste de inversión y un mayor nivel de riesgo tecnológico. En este momento España y EE.UU. podrían ofrecer políticas favorables y excelentes condiciones naturales para el desarrollo de la concentración solar fotovoltaica. Las principales tendencias tecnológicas pasan por reducir los altos costes actuales, aumentar la eficiencia de los módulos, conseguir mejoras en toda la cadena de producción, desarrollar sistemas ópticos duraderos en intemperie, y conseguir una alta precisión en el ensamblaje de módulos (óptica y células, principalmente).
