Costes de operación para incineradoras en función de su capacidad de tratamiento Fuente: BCG Por tanto, dado que para las plantas de incineración de residuos domésticos no se prevén aumentos ni en las inversiones ni en los costes de operación y existen ya a día de hoy iniciativas en marcha en un estado avanzado de maduración, no es preciso que se aumente la retribución por kWh producido que reciben. En el esquema retributivo actual no existe discriminación entre la amplia variedad de residuos potencialmente incinerables. Debido a sus diferentes componentes de fracción biodegradable y por tanto renovable, cabría la posibilidad de pequeñas oscilaciones en función de la variación del mismo. Salvo el caso de los residuos de madera recuperada y especialmente en el de los residuos domésticos, el canon de tratamiento de residuos se fija en €/t y estas plantas tratan grandes cantidades de residuos, los ingresos por este concepto (ajeno al PCI) en general son muy importantes (aproximadamente el 75% de los ingresos de una incineradora de residuos domésticos proceden del canon de tratamiento, y un 25% de la retribución eléctrica).
