En estos casos, los esfuerzos a los que son sometidos los amarres son importantes; además, estos dispositivos son sensibles a las mareas, y su instalación y mantenimiento resultan complejos. De todos los dispositivos existentes, el que está en una fase más avanzada de desarrollo es Pelamis de la compañía escocesa Pelamis Wave Power. Sistemas de rebosamiento y/o impacto: Son dispositivos en los que las olas inciden en una estructura, lo que consigue aumentar su energía potencial, su energía cinética o ambas. Los sistemas de rebosamiento fuerzan a que el agua pase por encima de la estructura mientras que en los de impacto las olas inciden en su estructura articulada o flexible que actúa de medio de transferencia. Se conocen sistemas de rebosamiento onshore y offshore. Los primeros no son muy frecuentes ya que requieren la conjunción de una serie de características naturales en el emplazamiento y el coste de la obra civil es elevado. Un sistema de rebosamiento puede incluir o no un depósito que almacene agua. Los dispositivos que almacenan agua en un depósito en altura utilizan algún tipo de concentrador (canal en cuña o parábola) para incrementar la altura de las olas. Un sistema offshore representativo es Wave Dragon desarrollado en Dinamarca por la empresa del mismo nombre. Por su parte, los sistemas de impacto suelen utilizar una pala articulada o una bolsa flexible como medio de transferencia. Existen dispositivos tanto nearshore como offshore. Un sistema nearshore representativo del tipo pala es Oyster, desarrollado por la compañía escocesa Aquamarine Power. Figura 4.4.11.
