Por ello, suponiendo que todos ellos estuvieran disponibles para producir en 2011, la capacidad de producción de biodiésel a finales de ese año ascendería a 4.283.534 tep/año. Por otro lado, la evolución tecnológica del sector permite pensar que durante la década que terminará en 2020 entren en el mercado de los biocarburantes que sustituyen al gasóleo otros productos distintos al biodiésel, principalmente aquellos obtenidos a partir de biomasa lignocelulósica a través de procesos termoquímicos y conocidos como BtL. Por lo que respecta a la disponibilidad comercial de estos productos, se asumen las siguientes hipótesis para el caso de España: Aparición en el mercado a finales de la década. Cuota del mercado en 2020 en torno al 2% de la producción de biocarburantes para motores diésel.
