Así, la producción se ha incrementado en un 128,8%, a un ritmo medio anual del 18%. Esto se ha traducido en un crecimiento similar en cuanto a su cobertura a la demanda eléctrica, a una tasa media anual del orden del 17,4% en el periodo 2005- 2010. Ninguna otra fuente energética presenta una evolución similar. Esta situación ha sido posible a pesar de la intermitencia inherente a la producción eléctrica renovable que afecta especialmente a la producción hidroeléctrica, que supone más del 40% de la producción eléctrica renovable.
