4.1.1 Manufacturers and suppliers of ORC plant There are a range of manufacturers and designers of ORC plant. Some of these are identified in the table below. They are designed for outdoor installation and can be specified for a range of geothermal fluids, chemistries and temperatures. Ormat supplies both ORC geothermal power plants (Figure 5) and combination steam turbine ORC power plants (Figure 6). Ormat plants are operating in New Zealand, Philippines, Indonesia, Iceland, USA, Thailand, and Turkey. 4.1.1.2 UTCPower The PureCycle equipment manufactured by UTC Power is modular, based on centrifugal compressor technology and manufactured in a more mass produced type skid arrangement (Figure 7). By selecting an appropriate refrigerant the units can use hydrothermal resources up to 150oC. Two x 225 kW PureCycle units are operating at Chena Hot Springs resort in Fairbanks, Alaska on 74oC geothermal water as the heat source. The first unit was commissioned in July 2006 and the second in December 2006. As well as the geothermal power plant (Figure 8) the facilities are developed to heat 44 buildings via a district heating system. Additionally absorption chilling provides 15 tons of refrigeration to the Aurora Ice Museum and heat is supplied to two greenhouses to grow produce year-round to supply the resort restaurant.
