Demand for electricity grew steadily over the last decade, including disproportionate growth in the commercial sector—with consumption increasing by 4.6% from 2002 to 2007 (Loy 2007, p. 20). LUCELEC expects slowing demand growth in the future, stating, The domestic, commercial and hotel sectors are expected to grow, on average, by 1.52%, 1.63% and 0.85% respectively over the next 10 years. The growth rates in these three major sectors indicate that a plateau has been reached in terms of the continued growth in sales and mirrors the state of the economy. This growth is predicated on an average GDP growth of 1.50% for the next 10 years. Peak demand is forecasted to grow by 13.4% during this same period (LUCELEC 2009, p. 16). Table 17.
