21.2.4 GovernmentExpenditureonGeothermalResearchandDevelopment DOE invested a total of US$ 44 million in geothermal projects in 2010 under regular appropriations, and US$ 50 million to projects selected under ARRA 2009. 21.2.5 IndustryExpenditureonGeothermalResearchandDevelopment Industry expenditure for 2010 totaled US$ 700 million in the form of asset finance, public markets and venture capital/private equity (8). 21.3 Geothermal Energy Use in 2010 21.3.1 Electricity Generation In 2010, 97% of geothermal installed capacity was located in California and Nevada. 21.3.1.1 Installed Capacity Geothermal electric power was generated in nine U.S. states in 2010: Alaska, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, Oregon and Wyoming (see Table 21.1). An auction in February resulted in 21 leases in Utah and Idaho generating more than US$ 300,000 in revenue. In May, 75 parcels in Nevada were sold generating over US$ 2.8 million in revenue.
