(Photo courtesy of TRT 2011) The consumption of renewable energies in Spain, as consequence of the different policies of intensification of these energies, has shown an increasing trend for a decade, only interrupted in those especially dry years. Thus, it is noteworthy that even within a framework of stability of total primary energy consumption, in 2010, has achieved a supply of renewable energy demand of more than 14.6 million toe, 21% higher than in the previous year. The objective of the previous Renewable Energy Plan 2005-2010 for 2010 was a 12% contribution of renewable energies in the total primary consumption, or about 20 million toe of a total of 168 million toe of primary energy consumption. It is worth mentioning that the target was set based on a forecast of expected energy consumption for 2010, which has diverged with respect to the total primary energy consumption, with the real total 2010 amount being 132 million toe, of which 12% is 15.8 million toes. As acknowledged by the European Commission, the results of the Spanish model are an example of success in the design of policies to promote renewables. In 2010, renewable technologies accounted for about 32.3% of total electricity generation.
