used to measure electrical properties of the subsurface, allowing inferences about the properties of the geothermal resource and flow of geothermal water. One of the advantages of these methods is that they are non‐invasive, do not require heavy equipment and are relatively cost‐ effective. Public involvement for Geophysical Surveys: Summer 2010 Geothermal Road Show The Colorado School of Mines research team organized and advertised eight public meetings throughout town to inform the community about the methods and results of the geophysical surveys and address concerns. Those interested in observing the process were also invited to shadow the fieldwork crews . The intent of the Geothermal Road Show was to provide transparency in the scientific process and to build trust and credibility for the research team their results. Because sustainable natural resource development requires decision making by local citizens, it is important that the information base is well‐understood and broadly supported. Geothermal Exploration Conclusions There is strong evidence of a heat source, but the exact nature of this heat source is not clear. Discharge of geothermal water appears to be associated with known faults and/or fracture systems. The data collected using electrical geophysical surveys identifies the Last Chance fault area as a significant component of the geothermal activity in the Rico area.
