It enables the generation of electric power from waste-heat sources such as process heat, bioenergy or solar power. For example, in contrast to conventional systems, we employ a hot- water cycle for the waste-heat feed instead of the usual thermo oil. ORC technology – transforms waste heat into green power The ORC process is based on an organic coolant that enables the generation of electric power at compara- tively low temperatures. Power generation from waste heat makes good sense even at thermal input ratings as low as 400 kW. The cyclic process – simple principle, amazing effect ORC technology involves passing heat through a heat exchanger, transferring its energy to a coolant in a closed cycle that creates high steam pressure, even at low tempe- ratures. This pressure is used to drive a turbine connected to a generator. The steam is returned to its fluid state in an air-heat exchanger, cooled and then fed back into the vapo- risation cycle.
