299. PWM – Pulse Width Modulation. A control technique that varies the duty cycle of a digital electrical waveform to effect a change in an average value of an analog variable. 300. QFD – Quality Function Deployment. 301. QUALIFICATION TEST - This is verification that the product as designed meets the requirements of the governing Capstone specification. It is performed once per design (versus once per item for the ATP). Qualification testing in most cases consists of 500 hours and 1000 cycles. 302. RR – Resource Recovery. 303. R & R – Remove and Replace. The Capstone field support philosophy to remove the component or part that has failed and replace it with a new or remanufactured component or part. R & R may be scheduled/planned or unplanned. R & R is a field action. 304. R & R PROCEDURE - R and R procedures are contained in the service manual. 305. RACT – Reasonably Available Control Technology. 306. RADIAL BEARING – A compliant foil bearing designed to have load capacity in a radial direction. The Model 330 MicroTurbine generator employs three radial bearings: #1, #2, and #3 (note: the Jammer engine employs 4 radial bearings numbered #1 through #4). The numbering sequence is from forward to aft. The generator rotor is supported on the #1 and #2 radial bearing; the rotating components within the powerhead are supported by the #3 radial bearing (note: the rotating components in the Jammer powerhead are supported by the #3 and #4 bearings.. There are three (3) components to the radial bearing: the bearing cartridge, the aerofoil, and the under-spring. 307. RAW EMISSIONS – Emissions that are as measured from the exhaust duct, expressed on a dry volumetric basis in parts per million. 308. REACTIVE POWER – Reactive power is utilized to control voltage on the transmission network, particularly, the portion of the electrical power flow capable of performing real work or energy transfer (see real power). Reactive power is that portion of the electricity that establishes and sustains the electric and magnetic fields of alternating current equipment. It must be supplied to most types of magnetic equipment, such as motors and transformers. It must also supply the reactive losses on transmission facilities. Reactive power is provided by generators, synchronous condensers, or electric equipment, such as capacitors, and directly influences electric system voltage. It is measured in megavars. 309. REACTANCE – Opposition of flow of alternating current in an A/C circuit. 310. REAL POWER – The portion of the electrical power flow capable of performing real work or energy transfer. Real power is utilized to supply load and is expressed in megawatts. 311. RECLAIM – Regional Clean Air Incentives Market. 312. RECUPERATOR – A heat exchanger design to recover waste heat in the turbine exhaust to heat Pcd air prior to introduction in to the combustion process. The use of a recuperator increases overall system thermal efficiency. Less fuel is required to be burned to reach the required T.I.T. 313. RELIABILITY - TBD 314. REMOTE MONITORING – Accessing Capstone units via telephone, cellular, satellite, cable or other communication methods to control, monitor or troubleshoot a unit or multi- pac. 315. REPAIR PARTS – A subset of service parts.
