Ultra Low Emissions Conclusion: Several product changes and potential combustion technology solutions were evaluated as part of the program. Alternative injector designs from PCI and Alzeta were evaluated. Both technologies were able to demonstrate low emissions capabilities, however as result of cost or reliable flame stabilization neither technology was selected. Capstone was able to make modification to existing injectors and control algorithms to meet the NOx emissions requirements. Modifications to the material at the tip of the injector were incorporate to meet durability requirements. A selective catalyst reduction module which meets the durability standards and requires no maintenance was selected to reduce CO emissions. The catalyst was packaged in a unique package which can be mounted to the microturbine roof to provide low emissions systems that meet CARB requirements with the CHP option or provide lower emissions without the CHP option. To meet durability requirements, sliding guides at the injector ports and material changes were made to the combustion can and a material change incorporated at the injector tip. Capstone was able to incorporate its existing Heat Recovery Module (HRM) without modification. Capstone performed certification testing using a third party certified vendor, submitted a formal application to CARB, and received approval through Executive Order DG-018. Emission testing was performed at Capstone by a certified third party vendor on the final C65 iCHP MicroTurbine configuration. Testing was performed in accordance with test procedures identified in article 13, title 17, California Code of Regulation (CCR) section 94207. The results of the testing demonstrated that the exhaust emissions from the Capstone C65 iCHP MicroTurbine for NOx < 0.07 lb/MWh, CO < 0.10 lb/MWh and VOC < 0.02 lb/MWh. A formal application of certification to the CARB 2007 Fossil Fuel Emissions Standard for Distributed Generation was generated by Capstone and submitted to CARB on September 12, 2007.
