Test Results 19 There are five logical explanations for this phenomenon. Leakage area is constant; Grashoff'e relation doesn't apply; circumferential leakage is insignificant; the machine was altered during changing of the ports; or somechange in external parameters has occurred. Closer analysis has revealed no solid justification for any of these reasons. The length of the circumferential seal line increases with an increased inlet opening angle. This accounts for a m j o r part of the difference in leakage area between the ports. The leakage area is 1.17 times as great for the 4.0 inlet port. There is no evidence that choking is occurring at any other point. To check whether Grashoff's relation applied, the assumption was made that all the leakage flow went into the second chamber and remained there. Even in this unrealistic situation,the pressure in the second chamber would only be 75 psia; yielding a pressure ratio between the f i r s t and the second chambers of0.63. Although this is not enough for chokin of choked flow, s i curve approaches ratevouldbe-verynear-t!ha.t:af miss flow rate versus pressure parabolically.
