It carries out research with the aim of developing proprietary solar technologies, including photovoltaic, thermal and concentrated solar (CSP and CPV) components and systems. Our main objective is to reduce their cost and improve the efficiency. Coupled with these technologies, CEA-LITEN develops integrated innovative solutions including: energy storage (Li-ion batteries, heat or chemical carrier like H2), conversion (through fuel cells, for specific uses as heat/cooling, thermal desalination,...) energy management for (micro)network supply, multisources integration, platform electrification. CEA-LITEN is also involved in biomass and carbon waste (incl. CO2) conversion (through thermochemical processes, plasma-catalytic,...) and valorization of the energy produced marine applications, CEA-LITEN has developed a clean carbon-free sailboat called "Zero CO2", equipped with an electric motor driven by a hydrogen fuel cell. In partnership with Gaussin Manugistique, CEA-LITEN develops a hybrid drive concept for driverless port terminal. In collaboration with the city of Nice Côte d'Azur, CEA-LITEN studies the feasibility for the establishment of new carbon-free energy solutions in the port environment, based on previous KIC InnoEnergy proof of concepts. In grid applications, the MYRTE platform in Corsica, has been deployed with industrial partners, for proof of concept of CEA technologies and management.
