4. Bearings
a. b. c. d. e. f. Seven frictionless bearings are installed in sections along the machine, which form areas
called sumps. There are four sumps along the length of the LM2500 turbine.
Sump A contains roller bearing 3R, plus this sump contains the inlet gear for the accessory
drive.
Sump B contains roller bearing 4R and ball bearing 4B.
Sump C contains roller bearing 5R and roller bearing 6R.
Sump D contains roller bearing 7R and ball bearing 7B.
The ball bearings are used to carry the thrust load of the gas turbine rotors.
