10 Electrospun Nanofibrous Sorbents and Membranes for Carbon Dioxide Capture 251 effort has been applied to their adsorbent design and optimization [15, 16]. In this chapter, currently emerging new materials for CO2 capture are briefly introduced and then the recent advances of nanofibrous sorbents used in CO2 capture and separation are highlighted. We conclude with a summary of current and future research efforts and opportunities in the development of electrospun nanofibers for CO2 capture applications. 10.2 New Materials for CO2 Capture A number of promising new materials exist for CO2 capture from precombustion, post-combustion, and oxyfuel processes [17]. Examples of new materials include ionic liquids (ILs), metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), membranes, and fibrous and nanofibrous sorbents (Fig. 10.1).
