Heavy tip rubs in that section cause damage to the compressor blades as seen
in Figure 22-8, and cause a loss of the blade coating. These tip rubs also can
cause the trailing edge to break and cause extensive damage downstream. Scratch
marks can be seen on the rotor from the stator blades being in contact with the
rotor, which could lead to failure of the stator diffuser vanes. |
